Next meeting - Thursday, December 13th @ 6pm

It's set! Our topic will be "Navigating the Schools with Food Allergies".
We are being blessed by the Illinois Food Allergy Education Association. They will be at the meeting with a presentation to educate parents, teachers and school nurses on how to handle food allergies in the school systems. This is going to be an excellent opportunity for everyone! They will have a plethora of information for us to absorb. Tell everyone you know.
See you Thursday, December 13th @ 6pm

Sorry that I haven't posted the December meetings highlights yet. I'm finally getting my head together from the holiday rush. I hope everyone had a safe, healthy & happy Christmas season.
December's meeting had a few stumbling blocks but it ended up to be productive. I apologize again for the mix up on the start time of the meeting. ALL Stateline FAST meetings will be from 6pm - 8pm.
Julie Campbell from the Illinois Food Allergy Education Association provided an excellent presentation on Managing Food Allergies in Our Schools. Thank you Julie for traveling from the suburbs. Your commitment to educating others about the severity of food allergies will be blessed. THANK YOU!
I have handouts from her presentation that will be available at the meetings. If you want them before, contact me and I can get some to you. I would also suggest checking out the IFAEA website. It's an excellent source of information. Julie has some awesome links for us to take advantage of. The website is linked to our blog. Just click & learn.
Other items touched on at the meeting were:
1. Possible topics for future meetings. February's will be on nutrition.
2. Announcement that February's meeting falls on Valentine's Day. It's a Thursday so go on a date night with the spouse on Friday or let me know if we need to change it to the week before. If I don't hear a overwhelming response by January 10th, it will not be changed.
3. I also announced that the Stateline FAST will need to ask for member fees. It has been set at $15.00 per family, due at the February meeting of each year or time of joining for a prorated amount of $1.25 per month. This fee is to cover operating costs of the group.
4. We are still in need of administrative members of the Stateline FAST. People that would like to be the backbone of the team. Opperating a support group is a team effort and we need just a few hours a month on a consistant basis to ensure we have a quality group for all that attend. Please contact me if you are interested in contributing your experience to the group.
5. The Stateline FAST needs to be affiliated with FAAN & AAFA. This would greatly improve our abilities to provide quality support to families in need. We need 10 members, a physician to be our medical advisor and pay a $50 affiliation fee. Talk with your physicians if they would be interested. The requirements are listed on the AAFA website. They are also linked to our blog. I will post any updates on this subject.
6. Our Summer Family Fun Day needs a committee. Just 2 or 3 families to help each other organize the details. We'd like to offer a Fun Day to allow kids & parents to network together, safe & healthy summer snacks and fun & games! This event will be open to the public to bring awareness to Severe Food Allergies. Please contact me if you'd like to join this committee.
The rest of the meeting was spent in fellowship with new members. Thank you to all you have stepped out to offer support to others struggling with the food allergy life style.
Take Heart!
